Head Of Department: Mrs S Mudau
Overview
The Humanities Department is one of the largest Departments at Gateway High School, with nine teachers, of which 5 are females. Our department is housed in the heart of the main quad building adjacent to the Arts Department. In most cases we register between 90 to 100% pass-rate at both A and O Levels.
Lessons in the Humanities Department offer very much more than skills related to the subject area or the workplace. It is one of the best ways of preparing students for critical citizenship in a rapidly changing world, a world that demands versatility and creativity rather than mere teaching and learning. The students are also prepared for university entrance especially in the following areas: the Arts, the Social Sciences and will ensure that the student’s journey leads to personal growth and intellectual development that will change his/her life for the better. In a nutshell, Humanities Department prepares students for university entrance and most of our products in particular, occupy cutting-edge positions in industry, the media, government and virtually all sectors of the economy. Our students are recognised by the world’s universities and employers.
Diversity is also our key strength:
The Humanities Department conducts several Educational trips each year which means exposure of students to a rich diversity of knowledge, experience and best practice...This diversity gives our students freedom of choice in tailoring their academic experience. To conclude, we produce exceptional young people who possess imagination, insight, mental agility and analytical skills. As a result of these attributes, our products are highly sought after by universities both locally and abroad. Most of our students advance to undergraduate study which further enhances their skills and employment opportunities.
