FROM THE HEADMASTER'S DESK

A new year, a new term, a new season and in some quarters a new dispensation.

As I reflected on what this year may bring for Gateway, I was encouraged by these scriptures in Corinthians4:7-9 which read: “But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.”
I’d be preaching to the choir if I was to even begin to articulate the situation in the country because we are all affected by the harsh economic climate. Here we are encouraged that we are not in despair, not abandoned and certainly not destroyed. Our Hope remains in our creator the Author and Finisher of our faith. Let us encourage one another in these difficult
times and come together in unity as believers as we have a huge role to play in rebuilding our nation.

May I take this opportunity to thank the parents for making the sacrifice to pay fees to ensure the continued provision of quality Christian Education for your children.

This term we welcomed Mrs Jennifer Curle who joined the Support for Learning department working mornings only, Mrs Mapungwana comes in to teach ICT and Miss
Alice Hungwe joined the Sciences department to teach Physics and Chemistry. Mr Jera our music teacher will be moving on to join Peterhouse next term. Mr Mapungwana
joins the Divisional Heads team as the Form Four Year Head and Mr Chiweshe as Lower Six Year Head.

The Cambridge results were as expected considering the ability of the different year groups that wrote. A Level pass rate is 98.5%, AS pass rate is 64% and IGCSE pass rate is 65.1%. A detailed subject by subject analysis is provided in the next section of this newsletter.

The PRC held a successful parent’s AGM on the 4th of February. The issue of school fees was brought up but was deferred to a possible fee meeting later on in the term to be decided by the Board. A week later the committee met and the following were elected into the various port folios: Chairman-Mr Michael Utete; Vice Chairman-Mr Jeremiah Munembe; Secretary- Mr Sam Samu; Assistant Secretary - Mrs Ranga Majuru; Treasurer-Mrs Martha Chasakwa; Assistant Treasurer-Mr Shingi Nhunzvi, Committee Members- Mrs Constance Mataure, Mrs Rachel Sithole, Mr Craig Maweni; Mrs Nina Alabi. We wish them well as they serve the school in this capacity.

We are also currently working on the staff car park courtesy of the PRC who are sponsoring the addition of quarry stone and three-quarter stone to make the muddy surface a thing of the past.

May I encourage parents to get involved in your children’s activities as this will strengthen the partnership. Thank you for your continued support.
